I’m always up for inappropriate superpowers that are a pain in the ass, though that’s not as widespread as I’d like it to be. Wingfic’s had its day, but if it passes me by, I’ll always take a look to see how it’s done this time.
U: Share three of your favorite fic writers and
why you like them so much.
Oh, boy. Oh, boy. I was thinking about this on the subway earlier, and I came to realize I don’t really do favorite fic writers. I don’t filter them out that way, not the way I filter novelists or film directors. I’ll instead do “share three fics you read recently that made you swoon.”
Falling Back on Forever - “Bucky falls from the train in 1945. Steve jumps right after him.” Something that reminded me why I read fic in the first place.
In Imbolic - “If China taught Darla nothing, it was that a little sentiment remained in her, like the last mouthful of blood that remained stubbornly in the vein, thick and bitter.” A rich and textured examination of the way vampires look at each other.
Nothing New Under the Sun - “In 1969, Spike discovers that even jaded vampires can discover something new.” Another short piece that tells a lot in a short space: vampires in love, and vampires watching the world change.
X: A character you enjoy making suffer.
I don’t like needless suffering, so unless I know the character’s going to make it through, I won’t do it. So of the characters I’ve put through needed suffering, I’ll say I had a lot of fun with Perry Cox from Scrubs.
