In Norse mythology, the svartálfar, also known as the dark or dusky elves, are a race of beings who hail from the realm of Svartalfheim. Despire being known as “elves,” the svartálfar are sometimes said to be synonymous with dwarves, though they are most often depicted as traditional elves with dark skin.

The main source of information regarding the svartálfar is the Prose Edda, which states that they were created by Loki to craft replacement hair for Thor’s wife, Sif, after Loki cut off her locks.
