“In a hundred years of movies, homosexuality has only rarely been depicted on the screen. When it did appear, it was there as something to laugh at, or something to pity, or even something to fear. These were fleeting images, but they were unforgettable, and they left a lasting legacy. Hollywood, that great maker of myths, taught straight people what to think about gay people… and gay people what to think about themselves.” (The Celluloid Closet, 1996)

And finally, I was asked to design one of the humans, so I chose Anathema. In the book she’s described as something like “all her features in themselves looked good, but all together they were plain” or something. I think the actress cast to play her does a very good job but is far too conventionnally pretty.
When I was reading the book I kinda saw Anathema as a bit chubby, but the most important thing about her to me was that she would chose comfort over anything else when it came to clothes. She’s ready to kick butts and go hiking if it’s needed.
