i wanna share with y'all a great thing that happened in my city yesterday. early in the morning, ICE tried to kidnap an undocumented man while he was leaving for work with his son in the car. this man had no warrant and no criminal record, and had lived in his home with his family for the past 14 years. these ICE agents, un-uniformed and in unmarked cars, blockaded this man’s driveway, while he and his child sat locked in their van, for 4 hours. (obviously this isn’t the good part.)

the man’s neighbors were the first to gather and confront ICE. phone calls were made, and dozens of local organizers, lawyers and activists showed up, in addition to more neighbors. they bought gas and siphoned it into the man’s car so he could keep the AC going. they passed water and food through the car windows. the city government was flooded with calls, and a few city council folks showed up in support of the man.

and ICE left.

the man’s neighbors & the activists formed a human chain around the car so the man and his son could get back into their house. and later, his whole family was escorted to a safer location.

today, that man is still with his family. his children, though undoubtedly shaken and scared (especially the son who was with him the whole time, and was so frightened he threw up at one point) still have their father. one of the neighbors said: “they picked the wrong neighborhood on the wrong day” and “I know they’ll be back, and so will we.”

I know a ton of posts get shared about doing this exact thing, but i want you to know that IT WORKS. community works. so please, above anything else, get to know your neighbors. keep an eye out for each other. don’t let people disappear. keep each other close, keep each other safe.

Why are these always for the fiction children, more specifically the SPECULATIVE fiction children, who make up a tiny fraction of the community, and never for the poor twentythirtysomething bastards slamming words together for a living every day, who make up the bulk of the words that get traded. Neutral Disaster nature writers and Chaotic Soft investigative journalists. Medical writers are Responsible Disasters, where’s that? Why is some college student wearing hoodie drinking coffee and writing a fanfic uwu the Archetypal Writer, and some grown woman in the woods losing her mind over moss and writing soaring poetic scientific truths about it, 65K words of marketable content to a deadline, not even on the radar. Why is a NOVEL the measure of completion. Have you ever talked to a professional poet. Walked the dark halls of English academia. There’s a lot more writers in the world than this!! And they’re fuckin FERAL

First, in nine boxes I count four line items that, to my eyes, imply a specific (and, yes, fiction-based) variety of writing. I see no reason that a Neutral Disaster, as described here, couldn’t be a nature writer.

Second, I would guess that the reason is because Schools Hate Speculative Fiction. Education systems, as far as I can tell, tend to be very big on “Read this specific book, or at least this specific genre”, and unless you’ve got a very specific type of atypical instructor that’s almost always going to be White Dude Literature or White Person Poetry or some variety of nonfiction.

You know, you’re absolutely right and I’m sorry for ranting. I do that a lot here and it isn’t mature, and I’m trying to be better.

I've always been like "oh holy water kills a demon permanently so Ligur is dead forever, that's what's implied that's the only thing that makes sense." Then the tv show came out and Ligur was not only adorable but had a lizard on his head n now I'm like "maybe holy water isn't so bad actually maybe it wears off and him and his lizard are fine actually :')"

Crowley’s definitely That One Hipster/Trendsetter, and he runs a (plant) nursery where he sells potted plants primarily, and decor on the side (for the plants).

Aziraphale is a mystery but it’s rumored that he runs an antique store that smuggles things for the mafia.

Edit: thanks for cutting the quality of the photos wow uh click for quality
