“Adrienne Sloane Unravels Our Concepts Of American Democracy” 👉 https://wbur.fm/2WzWnam – Her most recent piece, titled “The Unraveling,” is currently on view at the Society of Arts + Crafts in Boston’s Seaport until July 7. It is comprised of a knitted American flag that obscures a copy of the U.S. Constitution, which is printed onto a delicate mesh fabric. via @WBUR

“JUST MARRIED,” Fernando, seated, and his husband, both members of Los Angeles’ Blue Max Motorcycle Club, get pulled over as they leave their wedding ceremony, December 1969. Photo c/o @onearchives. In the mid-twentieth century, the Blue Max Motorcycle Club, along with many other gay motorcycle clubs, provided an alternative to gay bars, which were constantly at risk of police raids and harassment. #lgbthistory #lgbtherstory #lgbttheirstory #lgbtpride #queerhistorymatters #haveprideinhistory (at Los Angeles, California)

fun fact: motorcycle clubs in the U.S. were founded and run largely by gay men who missed the homosocial camaraderie of being in the U.S. military during WWII. the lifestyle and aesthetics of those motorcycle clubs gave rise to many of the stereotypical/classic gay “looks” (leather, chaps, etc) and indeed to the gay leather scene itself (both the gay male leather/biker scene and the lesbian/dykes on bikes leather/biker scene)

As a German, I have learned about Donald Trump’s latest rally with horror.

From what I read, he was in a racist quarrel with four female opposition representatives of non-American origin and non-European genetic background. He had repeatedly called on them to return to their countries, which he denounced in the most vulgar manner. When he repeated that call during the recent rally, the crowd chanted: “Send them home!”

As a German, that frightens me.

We have seen things like that before. That is incendiary speech. That is incitement to pogroms. And a fraction of the Americans is obviously already revolutionized.

As a German, I feel the urge to call upon the other fraction of Americans: Watch out! Get active! Prevent worse!

I love my very very cuddly pet cat, but I can't stand her cuddling on my bare skin, the fur tickles too much. I don't push her away or anything, I'll just pull my arm back or move so she's not touching skin. I'm honestly not aware I'm doing it, most of the time.

Last night, it was very warm in my bedroom, and the only covering I had was a tiny little corner of a sheet across my midsection. I was almost asleep when I felt a tiny paw touch my leg, then jerk away like it had been burned. Then, a little higher up, another paw touching and jerking away. My cat circled me, trying delicate little touches here and there, until she found the one spot on me that was covered by a sheet, and she curled up on top of me there.

My cat had figured out that I didn't like her touching my bare skin, and she found the one spot she could cuddle me.
