completely serious, tumblr should’ve been 16+ to begin with anyway. tumblr was incredibly detrimental to my mental health before i was an adult long enough to navigate it much differently. if you’re under 16 i would take this chance to engage with your interests & peers in a different and more constructive, positive way.

The comments in this post are fascinating.

Mostly because it really does show how the US vilifies sex. So many of the comments aren’t talking about the glorofication of being mentally ill or the ‘call out culture’ but instead are complaining about the presence of porn.

Shut up

rose-in-a-fisted-glove

No really, it’s a cultural thing pretty specific to the US in large part because of the role religion plays in our society.

Violence, A-Okay. But sex? That will ruin the children! It’s absurd. Especially considering that the second is most often done in consensual relationships and the first is almost always an attack.

Young people don’t have to participate in sex until they’re comfortable and ready for it, of course. But this treating of it like its somehow inherintly harmful is a sign of how unhealthy we, as a society, interact with sex.

And also the hiding and mystifying of it makes it harder for young people to engage in safe properly consensual sex when they are ready.

Because onlt adults should do it????? You fucking pedophile freak

rose-in-a-fisted-glove

Adults absolutely should not be having relationships with young people. But its a fact of life that young people have sex with eachother. And there’s nothing wrong with that, as long as all parties are willing.

But this villification and shaming of sex means that young people don’t have the knowledge they need to do so safely. Or they feel its somehow shameful, or a bigger deal than it is. And then that causes more emotional distress purely by how we as a culture interact with sex.

And the way that we as a culture view sex also allows for things like shaming women for becoming pregnant or people for being assaulted. As well as providing yet another avenue for cis straight people to dump on queer people.

If we didn’t put so much idealogical and moral importance on sex itself, the United States would be a lot healthier.

pansexual-crow

Whatever you say, kinkster! You just wanna watch two twelve year olds fuck each other, huh?

rose-in-a-fisted-glove

Thank you for being a perfect example of the problem with US villification of sex. Because you lack the knowledge and familiarity with the topic, all you can do is respond with outlandish outrage hoping to spark anger.

I can see that this conversation is causing you great emotional distress (of the sort I talked about before), so I am going to end this here.

this post has drifted wildly away from the original statement (should this website be 16+? I don’t know. maybe?) but seeing this much hostility towards even the suggestion of minors even knowing sex exists is… genuinely frightening?

@rose-in-a-fisted-glove I don’t know how “children should be given knowledge about sex so that they are able to engage with it safely” got extrapolated into “you personally want to watch twelve year olds have sex” but that is VILE.

I say this as someone who does sex ed both online and offline: pretending people shouldn’t get to know anything about sexuality until they’re 18 is a road to disaster. because, surprise, they will see and hear things before that, and without a safe, holistic source of information to balance out the inaccurate things they’ll be told, they’re going to develop some incredibly unsafe and unhealthy ideas about sex.

I work with 4th-6th graders. we talk to them about the basic mechanics of sex, how pregnancy occurs, what STIs are and how to avoid them, what consent looks like, and different sexualities and gender identities. none of that is because we’re trying to encourage the children to be sexual beings immediately; it’s because we want them to have a framework of understanding when they’re old enough to need it. we want them to know how to give and obtain consent, we want them to know what kind of protection they should be using, we want them to know there are adults and environments they can ask for help or advice without fear of being judged.

my program doesn’t give that much information to younger children, but we do start talking about consent and names for body parts - genitals included - in kindergarten. everyone should. because kids who understand that their body belongs to them are more likely to ask for help if someone is touching them in ways that hurt or make them feel unsafe. and kids who can properly name the parts of their body are more likely to be listened to and believed in legal settings.

acting like only ~kinksters~ want children to have any access to information about sexuality is asinine. children and teenagers who have that information are safer children and teenagers.

Baroque composer Francois Couperin wrote in 1717 a keyboard piece entitled Les Baricades Misterieuses. The title comes from a contemporary romantic colloquialism for eyelashes. But maybe Aziraphale inspired Couperin to write it about his friend in the sunglasses.

I am partial to Helge Antoni’s piano version because it sounds so very much like falling in love, gently X
