Fact: the antonym of “bonus” is “malus”; if you write a game where a positive modifier to a dice roll is called a bonus, it would be technically correct to call a negative modifier to that same dice roll a malus.
Additional fact: if you write a game that actually does this, you are a dweeb.
So many bits of amateur writing about games do this. A lot of them also put ‘boni’ instead of ‘bonuses’. Please, stop.
