Mistakes Were Made: The Epic of Gilgamesh

read it on the AO3 at https://ift.tt/2lBXbtH

by

Almost five thousand years ago in ancient Mesopotamia, Aziraphale and Crowley (or rather, Crawley) manage to get themselves mixed up in a series of events that would later be passed down in a story called The Epic of Gilgamesh. To complete his heaven-sent mission, Aziraphale must escort Crawley on a long into the wilderness to tame a wild man named Enkidu. Of course, mistakes were made…

This is for everyone who wanted more adventures of Aziraphale and Crowley throughout time and history, and especially those who want more adventures that cross into mythology.

Words: 570, Chapters: 1/?, Language: English

Hello lol I just wanted to ask how your training worked for ED and anaestherics and Paeds cause mine are blocked out but they're overlapping? Like getting a Paeds ED call when on anaesthetics or going to the ED on adult anesthetics. I love the pace for sure. But I am trying so hard not to fuck up without the added pressure. Any advice?

Hi there anon,
Last year, I spent a year working in ED (and did quite a lot of Paeds ED during that year).

In my current hospital, ED calls (like intubation, organ support, critically unwell patients) and calls about critically unwell kids go to the ITU resident, and the anaesthetic team covers theatres, maternity, and IV access calls (and also supports the ITU team as needed).

I spent the last 8 months as the ITU resident, and there were some shifts where I felt I was being pulled in so many different directions that I didn’t know what to do! I would be covering a 16-bed critical care unit as well as taking calls from ED and the wards. I know that feeling of being so under pressure that you simply can’t do all the work that you need to, and being worried that you’ll miss something important.

The best advice I have is the stuff you know already:

- Look after yourself. Eat/drink/pee/sleep when you can
- Call for help. There is FAR too much work for one person. Call your seniors, and your colleagues from other departments. Delegate.
- It’s okay to temporize, but don’t allow yourself to take shortcuts (e.g. peripheral pressors are okay if you physically cannot get back to the patient to put in a CVC right now…but they still need a CVC at some stage).
- Lastly…there’s a limit to how fast all of us can work safely. And that limit changes depending on how tired we are. Don’t be pushed to work quickly just for the sake of it. Your patients’ safety comes first!

Good luck, and enjoy the ride!

Crowley tries to play a prank and it backfires.

Crowley: *gives Aziraphale a bunch of snake eggs in a habitat* Hells called, take care of our children ‘till I get back

Aziraphale: ????!!!!!

Crowley: *comes back a week later* wh-What is this.

Aziraphale: *has hand knitted jumpers for the baby snakes, got a much larger habitat that has taken up a sizeable portion of the shop, and has hung a picture of Crowley in said habitat, so that the snakes imprint on him* ah yes, well you see, they hatched, and I didn’t terribly want to name them while you weren’t here, as it’s something parents should both be present for, and - Crowley. Crowley dear are you crying?

kedreeva

I cannot tell what is funnier to me

the idea that Aziraphale, more bird than snake, thinks baby snakes need something to imprint on

or the idea that snake eggs just put into a habitat w/o incubation wouldn’t actually hatch, and Crowley wouldn’t have hurt babies just to pull a prank, implying that he handed Aziraphale fake eggs and Aziraphale, not wanting Crowley to be disappointed and assuming Crowley did not know, acquired real snake eggs/babies in order for Crowley to have something to come home to

minervamagooglie

I mean, knowing how things work for Angels and Demons in GO, I think the most likely scenario is that Crowley gave Aziraphale fake/unfertilized eggs, but they hatched anyway *because Aziraphale expected them to*

So Crowley comes home to a bunch of snakes that definitely Should Not Be, and Aziraphale is just lovingly knitting them misshapen sweaters, completely oblivious to the idea that this was Not the Expected Outcome

ruby-white-rabbit

He knit sweaters for snakes. They’re just neck and torso. How will they stay on.

ineffable-bastard-crowley

If Crowley can keep his car together while its burning just by force of imagination, he can keep a sneky sweater on.
