i never really thought crowley fell in love with aziraphale in eden. i think that’s when he started to like him. in my mind, the switch really flipped from “liking” to “loving” in the bookshop fire, when crowley lost aziraphale, confronted a world without his constant counterpart, and discovered how bleak that would be. essentially, when “you’re my best friend” changed to “somebody to love.”

and i like the resonance of that. aziraphale realised his love for crowley while clutching books crowley had saved for him, surrounded by the burning ruins of a church. crowley realised his love for aziraphale while clutching a book he saved for himself, surrounded by the burning ruins of a sanctuary.
