Hello, wanted to ask, why did beelzebub have boils(?) on their face when they're in hell, but not when they appeared on earth?(If this is somehow explained in the book, which i haven't finished reading yet, i'm sorry and feel free to ignore the question)

Because Demons, like Angels, look like what they want to look like. And Beelzebub doesn’t want to risk upsetting Adam. So Beelzebub looks more appropriate for Earth. No flies or boils.

Hi. As a young LGBT reader, do you have any LGBT characters in books other than in Coraline and sandman? I can't think of any off the top of my head but I'm pretty sure I've forgotten at least one

Well, American Gods has Salim and the Jinn (who were included in the first season of American Gods doing what they did in the book, and thus causing a GLAAD award nomination), Neverwhere has Hunter and Serpentine, and some others who we just haven’t had cause to follow into bed yet, and Death:The Time of Your Life actually got a GLAAD award as best Graphic Novel.

If you please, I’d like to bring up something I wondered about The Sleeper and the Spindle. Usually a kiss to break the curse is a kiss of true love. Was this implemented, or no? But my true question was the meaning of names. No one said their name as if it was dangerous. Why are we deprived of names? Perhaps I didn’t get the meaning of it? (Thank you!)

I’m pretty sure the “true love’s kiss” bit goes back as far as the Walt Disney Sleeping Beauty. It’s not in Perrault or in the Grimm’s versions…

agentsof0akenshield asked:

Do you think Bowie's button eyes in "Lazarus" and "Blackstar" are a reference to Coraline? Was he aware of your work, to your knowledge? Also, what is your favorite Bowie album?

I don’t know.

Yes, he was aware of me. There’s an interview from the Bowie.net days in which he talked about liking Neverwhere, and thinking I was terrific. I was much too in awe to ever approach him about using it. But I was thrilled.
