Maybe misusing the name of God isn’t so much about saying the shallow words, “Oh my God,” as it is about using the name of God to justify discrimination, oppression, injustice, racism, slavery, xenophobia, poverty, sexism, islamophobia, ableism, homophobia, war, & the list can go on.

When I was a wee little Gaslight attending Catholic Sunday schools, and then later in college when I was taking a Bible as Literature class, both my stolid neighborhood deacon and my dapper Protestant professor said almost the exact same thing:

“Taking the Lord’s name in vain isn’t when someone says ‘God damn it.’ It’s when a mortal, fallible human being presumes to put words in God’s mouth and say ‘This is what God wants you to do.’“

Hi Mr. Gaiman!! I wanted to say thank you so much for not making Deaths subtitles in capitals. While I personally don't generally need to have them on unless I'm having a low processing day, It's something so many people would not pay attention to I really means a lot that your'e looking out for us dyslexic folks and peeps among the same sort of deal. I was wondering what made you so aware of these sort of things? because as I understand you are not dyslexic yourself.

I’m not. But I have a lot of dyslexic friends.

Hi Neil, I've finally gotten round to watching Good Omens and can't get enough of it. Thank you (and Terry Pratchett) for the amazing story, and thank you for helping to turn it into a TV series. While visiting my local bookstore, I found the black and white versions of the book with Aziraphale and Crowley on the front cover, respectively. I'm wondering if there was a deliberate choice as to whose name (yours vs Terry) was listed first on which cover, and which version you would recommend I get?

I took the white one as Terry grumbled that the black would be the cool one and I’d inevitably wind up with it. So he got black and I got white.

confusinglyqueerkid asked:

Hey so I've realised that the show follows two ancient gays (aziraphale and crowley) for no reason, they never impact the plot in a meaningful way. Because the children would have been switched the assigned demon + angel would look after the wrong one (warlock) adam would have named his dog, dog adams friends would have stood his evil like they did in the show and the end of the world wouldn't have happened Can you tell me if they impact the plot because I'm sure they do but I can't think how

Impact? What impact? :D

I mean, I could try to make a point of Aziraphale trying to bullshit their way through about Great Plan and Ineffable Plan to drove the Hell and Heaven representatives away in the airfiled but…

…nah. It’s much more funny thinking about this with Crowley and Aziraphale having no impact on the Armageddon story :D. It greatly reminds me of this. (But it’s not only about the Armageddon, so… :))

good omens good omens spoilers there is no great impact on the armageddon but it's not just about that :)))

Aziraphale is warm and good and heavenly and effeminate. That’s so important to me. My whole life I’ve seen effete and delicate villains, but never one angel. I’ve seen evil professors and emperors and tycoons with his love for pleasure and softness and good taste, but rarely the men who stop them. I’ve heard his speech patterns from murderers and evil overlords and comic relief baddies and unnamed sidekicks, but not from heroes, and here he is dangerous and deliberate and braver than all of heaven once he’s made up his mind. That matters.

Okay I’ve been thinking about this post a lot because it’s beautiful

And these things, these traits, ones we’re used to seeing used to mean someone is bad, are actually his motivations for being good?

He likes food, like being comfortable, likes not having to be violent (in the tv show at least), and it’s this love for pleasure and softness that pushes him to go against what he’s told he should be and want. The things that are supposed to be recognized as flaws are his greatest motivations towards compassion for humanity.

He’s soft and queer and vain and he loves food and these are good qualities! These things are his and he wears them openly and defiantly and they make him strong in a way heaven doesn’t comprehend!
