I think you can learn everything you need to know about JRR Tolkien from the fact that 90% of movie version of the battle of Helm’s Deep was invented by the filmmakers but the “What’s taters, precious?” scene was lifted from the book verbatim

Tolkien came out of WWI convinced that battles were decidedly unimportant. It’s why Bilbo was knocked out for the Battle of Five Armies. Food is where the real story is.

there’s no obvious reason for David Tennant to make Crowley walk quite like that but god bless him for absolutely committing to the one textual cue of ‘saunter’ like his hips depended on it

Here is my theory.  Angels (and former angels) are actually pretty gigantic balls of energy with all sorts of extra bits and pieces. To be embodied, they sort of have to squish themselves in to a very limited form with a lot of new sensory information. Aziraphale shows this by holding himself in tightly, moving and sitting conservatively to keep everything where it’s supposed to be.  But Crowley had an interim period as a snake, so he learned to be squeezed into a an even smaller tube THEN was thrown into this bipedal thing. So mostly he walks Like That because he’s a ginormous ball of energy with wings and probably a lot of eyeballs that was also temporarily snake and is now trying to human. Specifically a cool human.

If he’s not willfully ignoring how a few joints work, I’d be shocked.
