I’m reading Good Omens and this is the first book I think I’ve ever read by Neil Gaiman or Terry Pratchett and like… the writing style is a lot like mine. A whole lot like mine. It has a lot of backtracking, changing perspective, going on for pages about vague things instead of going into detail. And dialogue. Lots and lots of dialogue. I thought I was never going to make it as a novelist because of the amount of talking in my stories but here’s a book by two bestselling authors just filled to the brim with talking. Very little visual description. Lots of descriptions of peoples moment to moment thoughts.

I think I have hope.

good omens normally id put this on my main but omg you guys im starting to think i could do it maybe i actually could write a whole book

‪Woke Brain: Aziraphale and Crowley don’t have sex drives or experience physical attraction, but that still leaves a lot of room for creative exploration and alternative avenues for intimacy.

‪Broke Brain: Crowley has‬ been having daily masturbation/crying fits for the last 6,000 years and is so desperately horny that one time Aziraphale innocently called him a “good boy” after he reversed a prank and Crowley came on the spot.

Headcanon that when Gabriel and Sandalphon come into Aziraphale’s shop in the first episode and Sandalphon smells evil, the reason Aziraphale takes a minute to respond isn’t because he’s thinking of a lie, it’s because he can’t smell it. It’s not until later that he picks it up after a considerable number of attempts - the faint hint of sulphur and smokey fabric, whiskey and ashes and a hint of cinnamon from gum or maybe aftershave - and he realises he couldn’t smell evil because it just smelled like Crowley instead.

I love the line “Angel, I’m sorry. Whatever I said, I apologize. Now get in the car.”

I mean, obviously not a thorough apology until you remember that, relationship-wise, he didn’t do anything wrong. He asked Aziraphale to run away together. Arguably that puts the whole world in danger, but as far as Crowley knows there’s nothing they could do anyway.

So basically this reads as “please don’t stay mad at me, I need to leave now and all I want is you to come.” And I love it

Anyone wanna talk abt how In Good Omens Hell is a place that is physically abusive- killing demons indiscriminately, using threats of torture and acting on them- Crowley and Aziraphale have both emphasized that Crowley has to fear for his life if Hell knew what he was up to.

But Heaven is emotionally abusive- Aziraphale never seems worried about torture or physical violence, rather: “you don’t want Gabriel mad at you” they mock and shame Aziraphale, they constantly put him down, but don’t threaten to kill him.

This has to do partially with their personalities, but while Crowley is clearly more comfortable separating himself from Hell and moving on -Aziraphale struggles even to admit to himself that he doesn’t like Heaven. The emotional abuse that he has been put under makes him seek Heavens approval rather than try to escape.

In conclusion I love Aziraphale and want the best for him
