Speaking of adding filters to your eyes to block out blue light, did you know that the green eyes of deep-sea critters like the barreleye and cock-eyed squid are adapted to block downwelling blue light to help reveal hidden predators and prey? Talk about increasing their fitness!

In the dark Inner Space of Planet Ocean, it’s important to be able to astro-glide undetected. Some animals, like lanternfishes, use light organs called photophores to mimic the ambient blue light and disguise their shadow. But beware those that assume everyone is #nofilter! By filtering much of the ambient light, green-eyed animals like the barreleye fish and cock-eyed squid can better make any light that seems fishy!
