I’m new to Good Omens fandom. Okay, wait, I’m pretty new to participating in fandom in general (lurked for 17 years and finally crawled outta hiding) and I’ve gotta say that being here is just the greatest pleasure and honor and everyone is so so so incredibly kind and welcoming and talented. So just - I don’t know. Thank you for creating this wonderful art/writing/meta, this incredible culture, this amazing home. Thank you for accepting new fans with open arms. Thank you for warning me that my heart would get ripped out with The Sacred and The Profane. Seriously.

All of this…I’ve been involved in fandoms off and on 20-ish years and honestly the overflowing positivity combined with the absence of some elements that can make some fandoms off-putting really blows me away.

And honestly it’s no coincidence…I see fandoms as kind of like gardens which are shaped by the soil that spawned them, and sure it’s partly the themes of the story and its hopeful message, like attracts like and all that,

but then you add this whole OTHER meta layer of how and why it even exists, first with the book and Neil and Terry’s friendship and then with the show being a literal labor of love of one of those friends to fulfill the other’s dying wish <3, and then you have the incredible positivity of the actors and especially Michael “Captain of the Good Ship Ineffable Husbands” Sheen who literally got to live his own 20-year-old-self’s nerd dream playing his part and is out here yelling about love every chance he gets and validating fanart and fanfiction…

the whole thing is just imbued with love from every angle it’s balancing all our serotonin and I’m just glad I discovered it

#crowley’s love language is acts of service

I’m screaming omg.

#AND THATS PART OF WHY HE GETS SO#SOFT WHEN ZIRA FINALLY GIVES HIM THE HOLY WATER#because zira finally replied in his love language#finally showed crowley he cared in a way that was open and vulnerable (via @therebe-whales-here)

katbelleinthedark

And not only that! Aziraphale not only finally replied in Crowley’s language; his service was also a sacrifice because it went against everything Aziraphale has said so far and against everything he personally wants and believes. He gave Crowley, a demon, holy water against his better judgement and knowing fully well that one day it might be used to end Crowley’s life.

Realizing that squid have an ink sac and an internal shell called a pen so we’re living just a few short evolutionary steps away from calamarigraphy and honestly there goes the rest of today

maverick-ornithography

To all of you budding calamarigraphists out there: keep tight to your moral compass and don’t allow Big Squid to keep you down like Big Bird* tries to quash us here at The Academy of Bird Sciences.

*as always i am legally required to note that i am speaking of the cabal of so-called ‘ornithologists’ who tightly control information about Forbidden Birds.
The 2.5-meter tall bright yellow entity known as Big Bird is unconnected to the widespread suppression and mockery of the groundbreakingly uncorroborated research we do, and is in fact real chill with our mission to enlighten the masses.

“a pretty alien scientist” and I am guessing the majority of people who picked this book up had a very specific idea of what was meant by this phrase, given that, you know, it’s ST:TOS and all. (she’s probably green, wearing something not entirely practical but quite flattering, and Kirk has a thing for her…..)

this particular alien, however, is quite literally a spider made of glass.

but she is very pretty.

When I subvert a trope, I subvert it.  :) (Yes, I wrote the back cover copy.)

(In an earlier version it was “A pretty blue-eyed alien scientist…”. I have no shame whatsoever.)
