     Ben was no doctor, but he knew as well as anyone the one foolproof sign of irreversible brain death.

     Beside him, Madihah howled. Uncaring of propriety, she slammed her elegant head into the still grey neck, trying to block the Dust from rising in the air and pleading with her wordless grief for it to condense back into the familiar frilled lizard it was moments ago. It rose regardless, filtering, gleaming, into her fur, encircling her neck with a collar of gold.

    I never learned his name, Ben realized with a start. Garak never told anyone his daemon’s name. 

    Madihah’s forelegs collapsed from under her as she sobbed. Her human partner reached out abortively, silent face turned to the last fragments of Dust as they disappeared into the sputtering filtration system. The alarms blared, but neither he nor his daemon showed any sign of moving.

    Ben reached out and took Dr. Bashir’s arm. He did not react. Euphonia wedged her head under Madihah’s trembling chest, trying in vain to raise her to her feet. Man and daemon glanced at each other, each thinking the same thought.

    There’s no way they’re going to leave unless we drag them out of here.

    The prospect sat sick and heavy in Ben’s chest. How long had it been since Wolf 359? Since he and Euphonia bloodied themselves on the wreckage pinning Jennifer’s still body to the bulkhead? Since they had searched and pleaded and looked in vain for the seagull that was not there and never would be again?

    Not long enough. It never would be.

DS9 Fanfics not from AO3/ff.net Part 2

This is a link list of every page I could find containing DS9 fanfiction. Sites not included are ao3, ff.net, deviantart, and tumblr (or any other modern social networking site).  Any page containing 1+ DS9 fic was included. Many pages contain works for other Treks or fandoms as well so be prepared to scroll. Some sites are here multiple times because they had several locations with stories. I do this because many websites on this list are not professionally made and as a result occasionally have difficult navigability. If you’re the owner of one of these sites and would like me to remove it from this list, please contact me!

Special note: Take into consideration while reading that many of these works were written in the 90s-early10s. The show was still airing when some of these were written. Public attitudes differed from today. Realize most works will be undertagged if tagged at all. Read with awareness and enjoy! Edits: 

  • Anything that says something like 100k is not talking about wordcount. That’s the file size from when downloading things was crazy slow and everyone had dialup
  • You will see many fics repeat between sites as before large archives, it was common for friends to repost or link to fics from other sites for greater exposure.
