New Good Omens collab fic:

You Bloody Snake

(by @irisbleufic & @procrastinatingbookworm)

Chapter 1 / 9: UNFAIR

*

When Hastur finally woke up, he realized the sky was blue.

That wasn’t right. The sky should have been blood-red, maybe darker, rippling with the wings of Heavenly and Hellish armies. Not this tranquil, cloudless, limitless blue.

He was lying in an alleyway, between a nondescript brick wall and a building with evenly-spaced windows. The windows showed a room full of people holding bits of paper in their hands, faces washed-out and empty, speaking into telephones.

Half of Hastur’s body was writhing maggots, spread out across the pavement. He could almost hear Ligur saying I bet that’s what humans who’ve had a whatzit, a stroke feel like.

Except Ligur wasn’t there.

Session turns into a detailed narration of a “major engineering effort” – chisels, levers, fulcrums, sturdy overhead crane assembled from inexpensive portable parts.  Did they not know they were writing a game for nerds?  1st level party goes home with a 5000+ gp statue.

Our DM wouldn’t let us find anybody who could afford to buy it.  So we buried it until we were high enough level to build a stronghold, then dug it up and put it in the foyer.

That’s a good solution that contributes to a larger story instead of simply saying yes or no.  I think today I would let this salvage project play out over an extended period of time, possibly driving a level or two of character advancement in the low-level campaign.  5e has more mechanics for this sort of thing:
