“it’s not like the old truncheon-and-bell days. You wouldn’t think twice about running half-way across the city, coppers and criminals locked in hot pursuit.
With a mixture of pride and shame he added:
And none of the buggers ever caught me, either.”

discworld death: likes cats, pretended to be Santa once, loves his family, is nice to people once they die except when they are mean to cats….
earth death: a biker i guess
I like #mimic . I’ve been interested in #dungeonsanddragons for a long time, though I’ve never played. And mimics are probably my second favorite creature, after #kobold . I’m also a big fan of #terrypratchett #discworld series. So, you might recognize the mimic on the left as #theluggage from the #rincewind stories.

There were no public health laws in Ankh-Morpork. It would be like installing smoke detectors in Hell.
They avoided one another’s faces, for fear of what they might see mirrored there. Each man thought: one of the others is bound to say something soon, some protest, and then I’ll murmur agreement, not actually say anything, I’m not as stupid as that, but definitely murmur very firmly, so that the others will be in no doubt that I thoroughly disapprove, because at a time like this it behooves all decent men to nearly stand up and be almost heard…But no one said anything. The cowards, each man thought.

Stories don’t care who takes part in them. All that matters is that the story gets told, that the story repeats. Or, if you prefer to think of it like this: stories are a parasitical life form, warping lives in the service only of the story itself.

“But that’s not right, see? One man with the power of life and death.”
“But if he’s a good man -” Carrot began.
“What? What? OK. OK. Let’s believe he’s a good man. But his second-in-command - is he a good man too? You’d better hope so. Because he’s the supreme ruler, too, in the name of the king. And the rest of the court…they’ve got to be good men. Because if just one of them’s a bad man the result is bribery and patronage.”

He hadn’t had much experience with the rich and powerful…It wasn’t that they were less prone to committing crimes, it was just that the crimes they committed tended to be so far above the normal level of criminality that they were beyond the reach of men with bad boots and rusting mail. Owning a hundred slum properties wasn’t a crime, although living in one was, almost.
