random ineffable scribblings.… my goal is to dress them as awfully as possible

Do you guys ever think about how angelic names traditionally have an -el suffix which denotes their relationship with God (ie Raphael’s name means ‘it is God who heals’, Michael means 'who is like God?’ and Uriel means 'God is my light’ etc etc) and how even though Aziraphale’s name sounds like it could end in -el, it doesn’t.
And the fact that Nostradamus inscribed his book to 'Azerafel’ while Aziraphale’s name is still spelled ‘Aziraphale’ In The Beginning (in contrast to Crawly) serves to highlight this, he’s never been -el. For all his hand-wringing and ‘we have no free will, I have to be Good’, he was Doubting and disobeying from the very start and that if he ever did have a Proper Angel Name That Connected Him To God, it was altered it a long time ago.
Or is that just me?

I THINK ABOUT THAT TRANSPOSITION OF LETTERS AND WHAT IT MEANS FOR HIM EVERY DAY OF MY LIFE
I’VE BEEN THINKING ABOUT IT FOR LIKE A MONTH STRAIGHT NOW AND IT’S FUCKING ME UP!!
It’s such a small thing but also seems So Significant. Like their connection to God is what makes angels angels and Aziraphale’s name just specifically doesn’t have it.
I’m not artistic at all, but I would give my right arm (or someone’s right arm, anyway) for a Good Omens themed t-shirt that says “I didn’t fall, I sauntered vaguely downwards.”
(Possibly with something like “Did it hurt when you fell from Heaven” on the back, but I’m not picky about that)
I’ve seen shirts with references to the phrase, but never written like that, and I want one.
