StarFleet Tip #58

If you are a Chief Engineer and your Captain has an engineering background of any kind, do not lie to them about repair times or impossibilities. They know, they always know, and you run the risk of them turning Main Engineering into the bridge so they’re on you at all times. You’re not Montgomery Scott, and your Captain’s not Kirk where even when Kirk knew he let it go for Scotty’s ego/reputation.

“Kayi (My Grandfather) as a little boy sitting beside his parents at their home, 1953, South Kalimantan, Indonesia.

My grandfather loved his mother very much, and despite her petite appearance my great-grandmother was a fearless, outspoken woman in a society that expected her to be a ‘submissive, obedient’ wife. The man in the photo was my grandfather’s step-father, and my mother told me that he was “a very kind-hearted man” as evident through one story she told me:
One time he found out that my mother and her twin sister were reading the same novels everyday. Thus he sent large packs of books every month for them to read to the point that my grandfather had to build a private library in their house.

I will never forget these three. They all have special places in my heart. “
