here are more of my favorite pages from “A Golden Guide to North American Insects,” a tiny book that I can remember carrying around and drawing things out of before I actually knew how to read. I think it might have shaped me as a person.
The antlion, mealybugs, tiger beetle larva and the sheep “tick” in particular all totally astonished me as a child and I remember trying to draw them the most.
Of those, I’ve still only ever seen the mealybugs, antlion, and adult tiger beetles in person.
