You know what still makes me laugh? Hearing people belittle me for knowing so damn much about my own conditions so much and then seeing specialists stare at me in awe and thanking me for giving them such information.
There is about a two week span in the summer that sunflowers are in bloom in the great valley & the delta. It’s easy to miss and I seem to do just that almost every year. This year I fund just a few fields that were at their peak. And when they are at their peak, it is magical in the fields. Agriculture is a neat thing. Just about four months ago I was in the same area photographing the almond trees that were in bloom. So often people think of agriculture as corn, beans, and tomatoes instead of flowering almond trees and beautiful sunflowers. To be able to live in the Farm to Fork Capitol of the World is a truly unique experience. Not only is agriculture beautiful and abundant, but it is feeding the nation. In my time out in the sunflower fields I also decided that I think sunflowers should be the official flower of Major League Baseball.
JAMIE: Who’s taken the TARDIS?
DOCTOR: He means the police telephone box.
HALL: He said ‘TARDIS’ or something.
DOCTOR: Yes. Well, TARDIS… That’s, uh… That’s another name for it.
HALL: Oh, foreign is he?
JAMIE: Me, foreign? You’re the one that’s foreign! I’m Scottish!
DOCTOR: Uh, that’s right. TARDIS is a… is a Gaelic word. (He whispers to JAMIE.) Jamie, hush!

Russian Paladin
At the start of a new campaign, it’s our first fight. We’re escorting a merchant caravan when we are attacked by kobalds.
Bard:*fires an arrow at one of the kobalds in front of the paladin*
*arrow misses*
Bard: FUCK
Paladin (me): *nongeographical accent* Poor song man. This is how we do in my country. *slams morning star into inside head and kills it with one hit*
Rogue: OUR PALADIN IS RUSSIAN?!?!
Monk: Can Russians even be paladins?
What good, if any, is the study of the liberal arts, particularly subjects like philosophy? Why, in short, should plumbers study Plato?
My answer is that we should strive to be a society of free people, not simply one of well-compensated managers and employees. Henry David Thoreau is as relevant as ever when he writes, “We seem to have forgotten that the expression ‘a liberal education’ originally meant among the Romans one worthy of free men; while the learning of trades and professions by which to get your livelihood merely, was considered worthy of slaves only.”
