It is the third time a parade like this has been held in the city.  The first Day of the Dead parade in Mexico City took place in 2016. It was inspired by the opening sequence of the James Bond film Spectre, which features a similar event in the city.

This year’s event is in memory of Mexican refugees who died as they attempted to travel to the US.

Hard same. I am filled with loathing at the first sight of red and green bullshit on the shelves and I attribute this in a significant amount to my time spent in retail.

50 variations of the same 5 “non-offensive” Christmas songs for 8 hours a day didn’t help.

ladyyatexel

A customer caught me bouncing back and forth to one of the songs while I was doing markdowns one day. She laughed and said, “Do you like this song?” I looked her dead in the eyes and said, “ I hate it.”

I used to ride home on the light-rail after work with my headphones in my ears but playing nothing just to finally escape the psychological assault of forced joy Christmas music all day.

Otherwise, I find it a season that just highlights that I am utterly inadequate, incorrect, poor, and mentally ill. I loathe absolutely everything to do with this holiday.

I wonder if I can just tell my family I’m not participating in winter holiday garbage this far in advance

I was physically miserable last year because I was still adjusting to anti depression meds and so I skipped the family Christmas gathering and it was emotionally the polar opposite of miserable i was so happy not to be locked in a house with twelve people for 8 hours

I must go on a quest to lure out the sun from her hiding spot, once again

*sigh* every year this happen. Sun goes away, hides under horizon!

I guess, it’s time for us villagers to go on a *drumroll* quest to refind the sun!

First step: drink beer during winter solstice

Step two: ??

chrisx1987

Step two: dance around flames after many beers and celebrate the joy of being alive during this dark time.

Step three: find a bed-mate for the night, probably. This is also a form of celebration.

Agreeable !!

18th century dating advice, swedish farmers edition

Don’t choice your wife based who looks the best when dressed up for church,

your perfect wife, you will find among the women who are drenched in sweat from digging out a ditch

(paraphrased swedish saying. The meaning is: don’t marry a woman for their looks, pick the one who is the best farmer. a very practical advice.)

What we learn from this is that

Strong sweaty gf is best gf

I want to talk about Ivan.

Ivan, you idiot as he is called by his friends.

Ivan is a smart guy. He can come up with plans that are as well thought out as miles’ (or the inverse) but because of miles he never has the opportunity to shine. And he doesn’t really want to anyway.

He likes being able to do what he wants. He sees miles dance for everyone and he sees it break miles again and again. He also gets to see Gregor being pushed to perfection with the threat of chaos if he doesn’t. He doesn’t want any of that.

He wants a happy life without the expectation of greatness.

And I love that.

So he does good. What is asked of him and does it ok. If he does it great then that’s what he’ll be held to. He listens to his mom (who does want greatness for him) and does the things he’s socially required to do.

And he likes being useful. He thinks he hates it when miles pulls him into a scheme but when miles does tell him he doesn’t have to be involved he feels off. Almost betrayed.

His end with his wife is exactly what I wanted.

Thank you Ivan.
