Inktober 2018 Prompt no.20 - “Breakable”
Kintsugi is the Japanese art of fixing broken pottery with gold coloured lacquer - highlighting where breakage was. Like many things that fall under the Wabi Sabi umbrella, it opposes most western ideals of order and symmetry by saying that we should celebrate and find beauty in things that are broken and flawed - including ourselves.
It was so much fun doing the texture on the bowl and then using gold ink on top. While I won’t be using the gold ink again this year, to make this piece stand out from the others, I would love to use it again, perhaps more frequently, next year.
