Eight years after the Dominion War, Dr. Bashir sets course to visit Commander Kira during a restoration of Deep Space 9.

If you are tapping your temples cleverly, thinking “I bet I know the dominant theme of this fanfiction,” you are very likely correct.

This is the first upload, corresponding to Chapters 1-5. However, Chapter 1 is just an upload schedule and a few notes, so you can easily skip to Chapter 2 if you’d like a cold open.

The fic is outlined in its entirety, but tags and whatnot update as the fic hits those spots (including character tags). Some characters will appear who hadn’t yet, is my point.

You know, the show made it out like first names are v important in cardassian and bajoran cultures, and in asit Garak’s uses his first name more casually? Is that just cuz garak is a kid in some of this? Is it also fine for friends to use first names?? Maybe cardassians walk up to people with an idea of their relationship already in mind? (Garak walking up to julian and setting his hands on his shoulders comes to mind.)

Maybe the only reason garak wasn’t like ‘sup my name is elim im your bf’ is because garak is a secretive bastard.

“Keeping up with the Cardassians” is a show I would watch, and it should be based exclusively on Garak and Dukat’s rivalry

Deep Space Nine spoilers ahead (season 3)…

Something I really love in the Improbable Cause/Die is Cast two-parter is two similar scenes, both in content and visual framing. Garak is offered back into his old position before exile from Cardassia. He accepts, seeming to have no hesitation in doing so. Odo is offered again to join his home planet/The Dominion. He declines. 

I love that in Garak’s scene the camera moves to center Odo, and in Odo’s scene Garak is centered. I love that their answers are opposite. I love that Garak witnesses both Odo’s confession under torture that he wants to be with his people terribly (side note: I interpreted this strong desire Odo has to be the urge that was implanted in his genes as an infant as explained in ‘The Search’) *and* witnesses Odo still decline when offered the chance to return home later in the episode.

I kind of want to make a Parmak/Garak fanmix, but if I did, half of the songs would be Vienna Teng.
