“It’s like a video game.”
Those five ugly words appear in film reviews when the critic wants to say “insipid” or “brainless” while also dismissing an entire medium. The violence in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World was like a video game. The worst parts of the Breaking Bad finale were like a video game. The Hobbit was “like one bad video game.” So it’s no surprise when a movie actually is like a video game — a good one, no less — the comparison goes unstated.
