Hedgehogs are small and round and cute, beady-eyed and whiffly-nosed and apparently fuzzy (also kinda John Watson-y, or so I’ve been told.)

It’s not until you get a chance to touch one (a hedgehog, not a John Watson, much as some might like to) that you realise just how very prickly they are. Think of a pincushion with the pin-points outward.

Then sit on it…

The funniest part is the cat’s betrayed expression. Read all the Beatrix Potter you like, and admire all the cute little illustrations, but it takes a hands-on (or in this case arse-on) experience to realise that Mrs Tiggywinkle was not adequately described…
