idk i just thought these gorgeous shots deserved some love some paralleling and contrasting i just realized angel and spike have in a sense opposing conflicts when it comes to their souled and soulless selves angel lives with angelus clamoring for freedom inside him. his torment comes from existing as souled with these active urges though he doesn’t pursue them because of his morality soulless spike lives with william’s empathy clamoring to surface. the torment comes from existing as soulless w/ an ill-fitting compassion thus being unable to fully pursue evil despite his removal from moral conscience because of this angelus is unburdened by conflict and souled spike - while obviously struggling with his past evil self - doesn’t revolve around angel’s same torment about feeling the active urge to kill someone he loves and this is proposed/reflected in these two scenes which narrate two different relationships to the matter of angel and spike’s demon selves/versions as the end point to the 1x07 scene is that while angel wants to kill buffy he doesn’t because of his conscience whereas the end point of the 7x09 scene is that spike’s fears are unsubstantiated and in the end it doesn’t change that as souled they’re both two people who help other people but they ARE two faces of the same vampire conundrum… (angel’s still boring tho) (he’s my piñata and i club at him at will sorry) [x]
