riots-of-bloom asked:

Hi Neil!

A lot of fans see TV!Aziraphale as a softer personality than Book!Aziraphale (more uncertain, less judgmental), and TV!Crowley as more high-strung & expressive than Book!Crowley. How do you compare them? Did the differences arise due to plot changes, Michael & David's chemistry, and/or...?

neil-gaiman answered:

For me, it’s just Crowley and Aziraphale. Sometimes I’ve had people here on Tumblr ask me about perceived differences, and I’ve had to point out that the script and the book said exactly the same thing.

I think that characters you read are made in collaboration with the author or the text, characters you see on screen are much more what you see is what you get. So there’s less collaboration.

I don’t think about Book C&A and TV C&A, as I said. They’re just themselves.
