Covid is everywhere.
There are many ED patients without symptoms, e.g. the ankle fracture patient has Covid.
All of the severely-ill Covid patients are unvaccinated.
There are many vaccinated patients that are mildly sick.
I have seen two vaccinated patients who were moderately sick (one with hypoxia, one with rapid afib).
The inpatient team sent Covid titers on one of my moderately-sick Covid patients. His anti-spike titer was quite high.
Thus far, I have not seen anyone who had gotten the third shot (booster) come in with Covid.
We have an outbreak of Covid among health care workers at my hospital. We are all vaccinated due to a State mandate.
In my area, Covid patients are not dying or getting intubated like they did in Spring 2020. At least not yet.
In my ED, no one is dressed in full PPE like we did last year. PPE availability continue to be limited.
Unlike last year, the ED is packed with patients with minor complaints despite the spread of Covid.
It is very likely that Covid will start to hit nursing home patients. They are starting to trickle in.
The local positivity rate is reported to be 7% in the news. In the past week, the positivity rate in my ED patients is more like 90%. I told my residents not to tell me “this patient has Covid” but tell me when “this patient doesn’t have Covid”.
