I don’t mind ppl injecting technical math speak into everyday conversation in fact it is rather endearing but when the process involved is clearly just “search and replace [math word] for [perfectly ordinary word already in widespread use]” I do kind of roll my eyes the same way I do at low effort sf jargon/technobabble

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA friend i am so excited to begin what i hope will be an illustrious career of making everyone who follows me read The Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells! you are the very first person to ask! i was late to this party so i haven’t gotten to be the recommender much and im so excited to change that

Murderbot is the main character of a scifi series (of 5 novellas and one novel) set in space far in the future! it’s a partially-organic robot designed to provide security who hacks its own brain so it can do what it wants, which would stereotypically be a murder spree, but instead it gets overly attached to soap operas. and it complains about humans constantly while also constantly saving them from imminent danger. it’s sarcastic and anxious and doesn’t care (while caring deeply) and is surrounded by ppl who want to be its friends, which is much more nerve wracking for it than being surrounded by people who want to kill it. though that happens too

the series is SO funny but also deep about personhood and capitalism and trauma and i so highly recommend it. the first four books are novellas so they fly by! and then you get the big chunk of a novel for book 5, and then another novella!

there’s murder! there’s bots! there’s bots doing murder! there’s bots solving murders! there’s absolutely staggering exploitation in the capitalist system! there’s space ships that are friends! there’s bots that are friends! there’s bots that are enemies! there’s the inescapable discomfort of being around humans when you are not human but also need to assert your personhood in order not to be a thing!
