Grew up going there because my grandparents went nearby- You actually can see the whole aquarium in one day, its a long day, but you can do the thing. Highlight reel in the order I remember them:
- Otter exhibit. World's most adorable marine weasels. See if you can be there during a feeding or training demo.
- Kelp forest exhibit. Still a marvel of engineering. Moderately hypnotic wave motions.
- Behind the kelp forest is the cephalapods, including the Giant Pacific Red Octopus. STRICTLY SPEAKING the best time to see this exhibit is during a sleepever event because the octopus is nocturnal and dances, but that's what return visits are for.
- The Big Tank. recreates the local ecology. See if you can spot the Murres.
- Shorebird aviary. Do. Not. Attempt. To. Steal. Birb.
- Bat Ray touch pool (they're shy and will troll you, but Such A Good Texture)
- Freshwater creek exhibit outside on the deck. Also check out the coast outside for seals, whales, kyakers making dubious life choices, birds etc.
- Open Ocean Exhibit feat. Tuna which are WAY bigger than you're imagining and also they got puffins now??
- I think there's a whole permanent Jellyfish Exhibit still there and it's lovely? That, or that's where the current Tentacles Special Exhibit is.
- I think the theater is still there- they often have guest lectures or video updates from the MBARI Deep-sea rover.
But yes, You Actually CAN see the whole thing in one day, I reccomend at least two though. And coming back. Often.
