Odd question but uh?? Are there any animals that use their ears for something weird, something besides hearing or temperature regulation?? I mean like....like how elephants use their nose for something weird, something besides just smelling. Do you know of any ears with additional uses??

no, not really!
mammals are the only animal lineage that’s evolved large external ears, but their purposes remain limited to hearing, heat dispersal, and communication.
but I gotta write about SOMETHING tonight before I do my grocery run so instead, I’ll tell you about some animal ears that actually AREN’T!
it’s these:
that’s right, owl ear tufts have ZERO connection to their actual hearing ability! the owls actual ears are around here:
those tufts are just there to communicate the owl’s emotional state to other owls, and to break up their outline so they’re harder to find during the daytime.
and lemme tell ya, they’re doing a REAL FUCKIN GREAT JOB at that last one:
