Another aspect of Doctor Bashir, I Presume? that kills me is that his dad put him through genetic manipulation to improve him or whatever, and yet he’s obviously also threatened by his son’s intelligence. So Julian can’t win. He can’t win with his dad and never will. I can’t help but picture him figuring this out as a kid. Like first he wasn’t good enough and was made aware of it, so they made him good enough, but now if he revels in that or displays it in the wrong way, he’s punished for it. Not smart enough. Too smart. And it just goes to show that his father’s motivations were never to “improve” Julian for Julian’s sake, but to make his son an acceptable extension of himself. Like, that’s classic narcissist behavior there — viewing a child not as a human being but as an extension of the parent that must constantly behave exactly as desired at all times.
Do you think the star wars universe has like.. a trigger discipline equivalent for the lightsaber. like people on the internet will see a picture of a beginner jedi holding the sword and they’ll go “LOL wrist not set at 30° perpendicular to the right hip bone. have fun losing your hand you idiot”
