So I just discovered that there’s a kind of salamander that takes entire genomes from males of different species and mixes them up however it pleases. I can’t even say it’s a “species” because a single individual can have the entire genomes from four different species knocking around in it, so scientists just refer to the “unisexual” members of the genus (because they’re all female).
We don’t even know what salamander they’re originally descended from, because at some point they threw that genome out. Only the mitochondrial DNA are the same in this fucking ship of Theseus of an amphibian. Please keep in mind that it’s commonly accepted that the whole purpose of an organism is to propagate its DNA. This salamander said NOPE.
This doesn’t make sense. This isn’t how species is supposed to work for any organism, let alone an animal. What even is this salamander????

destination star trek london was really great but 3 Andy robinson things about him being Good
1. at the panel about queerness in trek, Wilson Cruz was nearly on the verge of tears describing his experiences being an out gay actor in the 90s and how important star trek is to him as a positive gay role, and then he turns to robinson and reaches to pat his knee and is like, i hope you understand how important it is how YOU talked about sexuality even in the 90s and 00s and how much it means to people like us, and then ROBINSON was nearly crying too
and in between them, blu del Barrio was wearing their t-shirt that says 100% boys years, exactly what they were surrounded by
2. Andy robinson described himself as, and i quote, “your typical cisgender male he/him” which is hilarious
3. at another panel, I put my hand up to ask a question, the moderator referred to be as a lady, and before /i/ could correct him, robinson was already correcting him off-mic, having met me yesterday
i thanked him after and he was like “oh no its nothing” and I’m just like. ur a 79 year old cis man, everyone else just saw u do that and demo the correct etiquette, it DOES matter and THANK u
