Who could resist the call of these warty little gentlemen? Here we see two Canadian toads [Anaxyrus hemiophrys] singing in a puddle in South Cypress MB, Canada. These toads breed from early spring to late summer, depending on the local climate. Their call is said to be shorter and softer than that of the American toad’s, although the two species frequently hybridize at the southern edge of the Canadian toad’s range. Images by N Cairns.
