I feel like I haven’t updated tumblr for a while.

I think I may have already stated this on here. But I decided to jump ship from hospital medicine during the pandemic and was accepted into GP training. It was a combination of many factors; there arent many hospital speciality can see myself doing, I enjoyed GP as a job when I did it during FY2 and think I have enjoyed my more general rotations the most.

And under lockdown and after exams I just realised that what I value in medicine had changed in many ways. I dont feel I need team settings as much as I used to. I also crave independence in my decision making and lifestyle a lot more than I did as a more junior doctor. These days I just want my own list of problems to deal with 😂

And I had gotten a lit more tired with the whole rigmarole of moving around and changing jobs and living arrangements. I love that GP offers lots of flexibility for teaching and having a portfolio career but is also really general.

GP is not getting a good rep right now, but it’s a worthwhile corner of medicine.

Every time I pick an option I worry if I am picking the right thing for me. So far I’m still on my non-GP jobs, so we shall see if it was the right choice. But right now I’m happy.
