Sometimes you need to do the hard thing in order to make life easier and happier for you in the future! It might be easier to stay on the default path now, but that might make life more difficult in the future. Working a little harder (and smarter!) now can make your life a lot simpler for the long run.

You know, you really have to give it to the Daleks through William Hartnell’s run. Each time they encounter something, by the next story they’ve gotten it down.

In The Daleks they don’t know about other planets or alien life. In The Dalek Invasion of Earth they are a space-faring race and have taken over the Earth, but they don’t know who the Doctor is due to time travel. In The Chase, they have time travel down and almost kill the Doctor, but he’s got more experience doing it than them and escapes in the end. In The Daleks’ Master Plan they make a literal Time Destroyer to just wipe out anything they come into contact with by weaponizing time, and it does almost kill The Doctor.

Like they still fail in the end, but it’s impressive that they keep one-upping themselves in terms of abilities, from being stuck in a single city on a dying world, to almost conquering the inhabitable universe.
