My surprise shirt was…. *drum roll* a Kiki’s! Delivery! Service! Tanktop!!!!!
Highlights of the random items include a giant squishy cinnamon roll (pretty sure it’s cursed because all I can think about is squishing it), a huuuuuge penny, a button that says “Believe in Me” and a wooden bookmark(?) with a face on it.
I am so thrilled with this!!! I am never disappointed when I get a random box.
During the height of the pandemic, retailers ordered less goods. As shoppers returned, they increased their orders. This surge of demand resulted in backups. Boats can only carry so much. Trucks and railcars can only carry so much.
This resulted in cargo ships being unable to unload their goods, so they just hang around in the Los Angeles harbor, anchored for weeks as they wait their turn.
Seeing the problem in LA, a bunch of shippers switched to smaller ports–East Coast ones, West Coast ones. But those ports don’t have the infrastructure for that much traffic so they are now ALSO backed up.
And a ship sitting in harbor is a ship that isn’t sailing back to China to pick up more goods. Which results in even more supply problems.
The President is coordinating with the LA port and the longshoreman unions (longshoreman = people who unload goods) to get them unloading ships 24/7, which will help.
BUT I would still grab potential Christmas gifts as soon as you see them on the shelves.
Shoutout to university me, who apparently spent a full day in class a couple years ago doodling a Discworld/Lord of the Rings crossover instead of taking notes
Chess-themed magical girl anime except all our heroines are pawns until they make it to the other side of the city (enemy territory) and can activate their “queen power”
a fucking badass transformation sequence ensues from pawn powers to queen powers.
I’m thinking certain rules of chess apply, but in a less literal sense. Like, Castle Girls are heavily-armored tanks, Knight Girls are sneak-attack experts that use ambush tactics, Bishop Girls are agile speedsters that focus on strategy
They all have weaknesses in the same way, Bishops will crumble when attacked head-on, Castles will topple if you came at them from an angle, Knights are useless in close-range combat
also, the King is the mascot character, like, he’s useless and doesn’t go into battle, but gives them all the information on how to play the game– and also looks like an adorable flying pink pug dog in a crown. It’s all coming together.
