A giant pacific octopus has 280 suckers on each arm for a total of 2240 suckers.

Each sucker has the ability not only to hold on to whatever it touches, but also to taste. This ability is called Chemotaxis, and it allows the octopus to hunt and find food in complete darkness. When an octopus touches you one of the things it’s doing is trying to figure out is whether or not you’re a potential food item. The fleshy circular pad inside each sucker regenerates regularly, and old pads are sloughed off. These may be seen floating in the water in the octopus’ exhibit from time to time.

I am delighted that Worf is going to recover. You gambled, he won. Not all of your patients are so lucky. You scare me, Doctor. You risk your patients’ lives and justify it in the name of research. Genuine research takes time. Sometimes a lifetime of painstaking, detailed work in order to get any results. Not for you. You take short cuts. Right through living tissue. You put your research ahead of your patients’ lives. And as far as I’m concerned, that’s a violation of our most sacred trust. I’m sure your work will be hailed as a stunning breakthrough. Enjoy your laurels, Doctor. I’m not sure I could.

I loved pretty much the exact same things you did about this one.

I was also irrationally and fiercely compelled by Keevan, like, to the point that I was hoping he would be a recurring thing. I don’t know if it was his...

I left the cut in, because this is gonna get long!

Re:  Keevan - I guess he comes back, but I guess it’s just once and the episode is kind of silly? Too bad. I liked his portrayal of a Vorta who does respect his men, but also understands that they are tools to be used for a specific purpose. He’s not sentimental about them and they don’t want him to be. It’s weird and alien and that’s what I like about this show.

The makeup team did a good job on this episode, yes? To be able to make Garak and Nog look good under natural light is probably not the easiest thing in the world. I looked for seams and didn’t see any. I liked the story continuity too, and I liked that Nog was completely forthright about it.

I think that O'Brien is just the most mentally stable son of a bitch in the known universe. He’s like one of those inflatable clowns - you punch ‘em over and they pop back up. Julian keeps subtly trying to assess his mental health, and O'Brien just kind of looks at him. O'Brien has a family to keep him tied to reality, and he has friends that love him desperately. I think that he uses them to keep himself afloat; to get over the bad memories, he makes as many good ones as he can as quickly as he can. It is too bad they didn’t do more with it, though. Does he ever even make reference to his 20-year-stint again?

Re: Garak and sewing - I like that right now it kind of seems like he’s made peace with the tailor thing. He’s found a niche, and it’s perhaps not the niche he would prefer, but his experience with being back under the wing of Enabran Tain back in season 3 was not as pleasant as he remembered either. I think he probably realizes that he’s changed just enough that he can’t go back to what he was, and Cardassia doesn’t want him back any other way, so for now he’ll make do and make pants.

Nog has grown tremendously as a character! Not going to lie, I still find him a bit irritating, but I find him irritating in the way that every green Starfleet cadet irritates me. Wesley was the same way. They’re so earnest and eager. I like them better once something awful happens to them. I am a terrible person.

Thanks for talking to me about Star Treeeeek~

Summary: Vignette. Julian Bashir knows nobody trusts him, and that he doesn’t deserve to be trusted. Only one person makes him feel as if there might be hope.

A short one. I woke up with it in my head and had to get it down.
