Female, youngster and adult male Rosebreasted Grosbeaks. They are abundant this year, and I often hear their specific squeak - as if someone has stepped on a rubber ducky. They also sing, and beautifully so. I love these guys.
Illustrations for Terry Pratchett’s Carpe Jugulum, that i did in this semester.
Singer and tailor am I –
Doubled the joys that I know –
Proud of my lilt through the sky,
Proud of the house that I sew –
Over and under, so weave I my music – so weave I the
house that I sew.
– Darzee’s Chaunt, poem by the tailorbird in the short story Rikki-Tikki-Tavi, from The Jungle Book (1894) by Rudyard Kipling
