Animal of the Day!
Pea Crab (Pinnotheres pisum)
(Photo byWhite Stone Oysters)
Conservation Status- Unlisted
Habitat- Atlantic coast; Pacific coast
Size (Weight/Length)- 13 mm
Diet- Phytoplankton
Cool Facts- The tiny pea crab lives its life in fear of much larger predators looking for a tasty snack. The parasitic crab crawls inside a mollusk, using it for food, protection, and oxygen. Stealing the mollusk’s well earned food and taking oxygen from their gills, the pea crab can spend its entire life in a single mollusk. A single mollusk can even act as a breeding ground for a pair of pea crabs who’re single and ready to mingle. However, these parasites are considered a delicacy and sign of good luck when you find one in an oyster.
Rating- 11/10 (Tbh, not a fan of these.)
Animtober- Crabby (Just the size of a pea.)
We have to stop him
What manner of beast is this. Some sort of badger?
White nosed coati! Related to raccoons. They are pretty cool dudes, they look like they’d eat your fingers if you let them, and they absolutely would take you up on that offer!
