so I’ve been rereading all the Vorkosigan saga books I can get my hands on and I’ve been thinking about Miles a lot (I mean, he’s the main character for most of the books, so) and how I would describe him to other people

Miles is the kinda guy who starts digging a hole and then realizes he’s dug himself a hole, so he makes it bigger, and hires people to come in and put in flooring and cabinets and furniture by the time you find the hole Miles has dug for himself it’s a lovely three bedroom house that’s scaled down for him so you can’t fit in it anyway (except maybe the living room) and he pretends that was his goal the whole time

I am thinking of the post by @allthingslinguistic about universal translators. Picard (and the viewers) hear biscuits, but are they the US or UK version? A different 24th cebtury version? What is the Cardassian equivalent to a human buiscuit? How does it relate to the Klingon equivalent? I am curious what the Klingon’s mom’s recipe is really for and what the Cardassian would make of it since it very likely isn’t for the dish the universal translator gives as ‘buiscuit". Although there is tge possibility that human style biscuits are all thge rage in the alpha quadrant, and have been for generations, for humans, Klingons and Cardassians alike.

I could talk about the implications of universal translators for ever. So many interesting questions here
