Here I am at this horrible job (which is why I have a much better job starting the 1st of March) rewatching Star Trek Deep Space Nine from the very beginning, and, uh, can I just say that I haven’t relocated my love for it yet? Like I remember it coming on, I remember not being put off by the fact that it was on a space station, I remember instantly wanting Bashir to be in every goddamn scene with his awkward, frontier medicine loving ass, and I do remember thinking that it hadn’t hit its stride yet, even then. But boy, these first few episodes have been hard to get through. And I’m not talking the lack of a hi-res redo either.

I’m holding on to the moments I remember that I really love, and I know they will hit their stride soon.

Seriously though how do I stop screaming at myself that I’m a terrible person all day everyday

Let’s make a pact: if one of us figures this out we tell the other(s).

I’m down.

This is what’s helped me:

a) talk therapy (I’m on brain-docs #6 & 7, this is not easy) & mindfulness meditation (ubiquitous, over-hyped, also not easy to do well and consistently)

b) rebalancing brain chemistry with the right anti-depressant/anti-anxiety meds (this took false starts and wrong turns, and they sucked horribly)

c) reducing physical pain through major surgery (…not easy), yoga (ow), medication (!), meditation (more), cat petting, fiction, massage, you name it I’ve done it

Now when the voice yells “I am terrible!” I usually remember to yell back, “Yes, voice, you are!” But it still isn’t easy.
