Yes. Yes, I want all of this.

People can’t anticipate how much they’ll miss the natural world until they are deprived of it.
I have read about submarine crewmen who haunt the sonar room, listening to whale songs and colonies of snapping shrimp. Submarine captains dispense “periscope liberty” - a chance to gaze at clouds and birds and coastlines - and remind themselves that the natural world still exists. I once met a man who told me that after landing in Christchurch, New Zealand, after a winter at the South Pole research station, he and his companions spent a couple of days just wandering around staring in awe at flowers and trees. At one point, one of them spotted a woman pushing a stroller. “A baby!” he shouted, and they all rushed across the street to see. The woman turned the stroller and ran.
Nothing tops space as a barren, unnatural environment. Astronauts who had no prior interest in gardening spend hours tending experimental greenhouses. “They are our love,” said cosmonaut Vladislav Volkov of the tiny flax plants - with which they shared the confines of Salyut 1, the first Soviet space station. At least in orbit, you can look out the window and see the natural world below.
On a Mars mission, once astronauts lose sight of Earth, they’ll be nothing to see outside the window. “You’ll be bathed in permanent sunlight, so you won’t eve see any stars,” astronaut Andy Thomas explained to me.
“All you’ll see is black.”

This is a really interesting read - it’s got a lot of information that I would never have thought to think of (such as - will astronauts eyeballs become different shapes without gravity - weird), but it also has really good chapters about the psychology of space.

I’ve felt an absence in my Wardrobe of Nerdery, so I bought a grey sweater and remedied that! Now I have a Cardassian-Armor sweater, and it’s really comfy!
So of course I had to go and have a whole dang photoshoot because space-lizards are extremely overdramatic!
Okay, I am gonna reblog this till I die.
Can I ask how you did this? Is it embroidered yarn?
@tinsnip Yep! It’s embroidered.
I bought a plain gray sweater online, printed out several pictures of Cardassian armor for reference, and made the lines using a chain stitch in light gray yarn I bought at a craft store. I chose chain stitch because it gives a good width to the line and pairs well with a knit. Since it’s hard to draw guiding lines on a sweater, I used a mix of trial-and-error and loose running stitches with plain cotton thread so I had something to follow with the yarn.
The back of the sweater actually looks slightly different from the front. To get it right I had to stare at a fan video of Gul Dukat’s back end quite a lot (fortunately that isn’t too hard to find). Here’s the back view:

I hope this has been helpful, and thanks so much to everyone for expressing interest! It was a little idea I had over a year ago (in this post actually!) that has given me immense satisfaction.
This was just a really long frustrating, invasive day, and there was this woman who was going through her own long and invasive day and I remember her checking in with me, even though she didn’t need to, even though there probably wasn’t much she could do. I don’t know, I was on a bunch of painkillers. It felt so kind and thoughtful. I remember her.
A Russian farmer thought he found 4 stray kittens behind his barn, but he’d actually come across a litter of Pallas’ cats. After realizing they looked like no kittens he’d ever seen, he left them with a nature reserve, where 2 house cats immediately treated them as their own, fed them, and took care of them until they could be released back into the wild. Very nice!
Cats, please, guys. There’s some complicated stuff going on, and Cats Are Good.

This is my cat. She doesn’t let me read by myself so I read out loud to her and she purrs like a generator full of bees.
These are my cats. As ex-strays who decided to move in with me, they both like to help me when I’m working. Top: Assistant Housepainter Percy. Bottom: Assistant Report Editor Thomas.

El Diablo sympathizes. He prefers the snuggly, stress-free life. He would like to offer his fluffy belly, if you need some place soft to put your face for a minute. He promises his name is not indicative of his character.

This is Donut. He is weird.

this is tuggy and i dont know how to save instagram pics

This is Sami when she was little, and after she’s grown a bit. She is super adorable, and she knows it. She purrs all the time, and is extra cuddly. But she also likes to scream at 7am that she hasn’t been fed since LAST NIGHT and she’s STARVING.

This is Typhoid and Grimm and they’re fucking GAY as shit. And this is Pippin and he’s my fat little sweet potato.

This is Nellie. She is large and needy, and yells at you from across the room if you are not giving her constant attention. She is super cuddly, but demands to be the little spoon at all times, otherwise she yells at you again. She enjoys yelling…especially at 3am.

Amber likes tumblr. Amber does not like an empty food bowl. The yells then runs away. She is very floof.

This is Tali’zorah nar Rayya vas Neema (or Tali for the peasants)
She is super spoiled and loves belly rubs and chicken.
