‘Temporary’ Names

Vet clinics often have litters of kittens to raise. Either they’re too young for a shelter, too sickly, or the clinic intends to adopt them out when they’re big enough. Whatever the reason, nurses often end up raising kittens and giving them ‘temporary’ names. 

The intention of these temporary names is that if you give the kitten a stupid name, you have something to call it other than ‘the middle black male’, but because it’s a stupid name you wont get emotionally attached and end up keeping it. Again. 

Which is how some nurses end up with cats that have names like ‘Flea bus’ and ‘Trash bag’.

First of all, I assume you’re aware of the existence of the DD9 tumblr? Because it is a thing and it is a lovely thing. A wonderful person has taken it upon themselves to archive all DD9-related tumblr posts, and since it’s mostly a tumblr thing, it’s very comprehensive.

Now, if you’re looking for fic, it kind of depends what you’re looking for.

Do you want happy Garak/Bashir? Because there is heaps. Lady Yate-Xel’s original DD9 fic involves dates and clever conversation and it updates a little at a time, giving us snapshots of their relationship. It’s addictive and adorable.

Do you want sad Garak/Bashir? I toot my own horn: I’ve taken “The Wire” and twisted it into a DD9 shape and called it Disconnect.

Do you want clever-ass Garak/Bashir? Vyc has a really fascinating fic named “An Evening With Schoenberg” that’s worth reading. Lots of delightful characterization, too.

Do you want a Garak/Bashir with a much randier take on Julian? I’ve very much enjoyed KanarandTarkaleanTea’s Shields.

Oh, you don’t want Garak/Bashir at all? Shit, you may be in the wrong ‘verse. ;)  I kid, I kid. There are various other fics involving the cast including prophetic fire’s adorbs Dominion fics (her characterization of Damar and Weyoun just fucking slays me), LadyDrace’s series of fics (I love safe space!), KatiaSwift’s Lemons (and others, although actually this is more G/B tee hee), my own Me and My Ghosts (Jadzia & Quark hanging out)…

God, there’s just so much good stuff, I could quite literally bathe in it. I mean, I could print it all out, blend it up with a bit of water, and make a sort of paste in which I could bathe. There’s a lot, is what I’m saying.

And the art, oh, the art… well, best just scan through the tumblr for that.

Did anyone else immediately realize Curzon/Odo’s (from “Facets”) incredible fashion sense would look amazing on Garak? Well, if you did or didn’t, I drew it anyway (with a modifications)!
