More DS9 Companion things

Specifically on Rejoined, aka the lesbian kiss episode.

They got, uh, some notes about the lesbian kiss.

Steve Oster– “One that I will always remember was a call that one of our production assistants took. A man said ‘You’re ruining my kids by making them watch two women kiss like that.’ And our P.A. said, ‘Let me ask you a question, Would you have been okay if one of the women had shut the other to death with a phaser and the kids watched that?’ And he said, ‘Yes, of course,’ And the P.A. said, ‘Well maybe you’d better think about who it is that is ruining your kids.’”

Also, while I have some issues with the ep and how its rep works, it’s important to note it wasn’t actually supposed to be a gay ep, originally. “In fact, Echevarra’s original concept for the episode was a former MALE lover from Dax’s past shows up at the station.” So that’s interesting.

Anonymous asked:

Hey I hope this isn't like rude or anything but if you need some extra money to help you out after paying that bill, can we commission you or something? Is there anything we can do to help?

ladyyatexel answered:

That is very sweet of you, anon-friend!  I feel very weird saying all these things, but here we go!

Currently, if you wish to help me recover financially from medical hell, you can do a few things!

  • If you are of the Troughton-era Doctor Who persuasion, you can get a Yeti Book!  Similarly, if you are Doctor Who ish in general, I have several prints from Gallifreys Past that won’t be going with me in February because I’m replacing them with new work, so if that interests you, let me know!  I have some posters and banners of my ‘every companion in a TARDIS outfit’ spread lying around too.

  • I’m not quite well enough to commit to large or traditional commissions at the moment, so I can’t watercolor you a poster or anything, but if you’re into something small and digital, I could manage that starting in January provided my organs don’t explode or mutiny any further.  Things are too messy right now with travel and exhausting family things and another doctor’s appointment to do it any earlier.
  • You could commission a doll/repaint too if that’s your bag, but that would also have to be after the new year and we’d need to coordinate what you want.  I’m not opposed, it’s just more complicated than a painting.  The work I’m doing now on the dolls is like ‘work for half an hour, get exhausted, go to bed,’ which is why it’s like a little blip of action daily and not a whole finished thing but I like to feel that I’ve done something creative for the day.  If we go this route it would take longer than a 2D image.

Thank you for asking!  I’m not starving or anything, so don’t feel guilty if you can’t help out.  I had a large savings built up for emergencies, I just had several that all happened at the same time this year, so my $1000 dollar savings is now $150 and it’s a little alarming to look at and daunting to think of building it back up again.  My checking account took a bit of a beating too, of course, so I’m just being extra careful and trying not to panic that I have less in my balances than I’m used to seeing.  I’m trying to feel secure and brace for more medical appointments, not pay for shut off utilities or anything.

My savings for Gallifrey, for those concerned for such things, is still intact.  I’m still going, still in the art show, still going to be able to get on a plane and hotel etc.   Frankly, I would probably prioritize saving for Gally over buying food (which I have not done yet), so no worries there!

I keep seeing everyone posting their #2018KnittingGoals and it has inspired me to figure out what I want to knit for myself in the upcoming year!
.
My stash is NOT small. I have lots of yarn and lots of patterns queued. I even have many yarn/pattern combos all ready to go. It’s just a matter of finding the time to complete projects that are on the docket and not getting distracted by shiny new ideas!! I think my main goal for 2018 is stash busting. Not because I think my stash is too large, but because I have so many yarns that I love and want to use!
.
So, here are some of things I hope to knit in 2018:
.
(1) I plan on kicking the year off with the @dreareneeknits Comfort Fade Cardi KAL. I will be using @niceandknit yarn from their Green Fade kit.
.
(2) Marco Polo sweater, with this @mrscrosbyplays yarn that I got at the @websyarn tent sale this year.
.
(3) I have two other kits from @niceandknit that I purchased at #stitchesunited last year that need to be knitted up. They are Torguata by @ambahobrien and Southbound by Nice and Knit.
.
(4) I have had the Beeswax Cowl, Hat, and Mitts by @amyvdlaar in my queue forever. I even have the perfect @madelinetosh DK yarn in stash to knit them!
.
(5 & 6) I have two @officialkitteryly kits that are also waiting to be knit up. Take it All by @malihadesigns with Hedgehog Fibers yarn and Versus by @xilary with Tosh Merino Light.
.
There are of course so many other things I would also like to knit, but these are at the top of my list right now as projects that I have both the yarn and pattern for and just need to cast on!

This is a reassuring post, because it reminds me that using a kit isn’t Cheating, it’s using the best possible tools for the job.
