The Basan is a yōkai from Japanese mythology. It is depicted as a huge chicken that breathes cold fire from its beak.

The Basan was said to live in the bamboo groves on the mountains of the Iyo Province (now the Ehime Prefecture). It will sometimes manifest in human villages late at night, but vanish if it is looked at.
