Had we but world enough and time,
This coyness, lady, were no crime.
Okay, so interesting random Doctor Who stuff…
“World Enough and Time” - so the actual poem is about a dude saying to his girlfriend, c’mon, let’s get on to gettin’ on, we’re all gonna die someday–
But the actual couplet the title is from is as follows:
Had we but world enough and time,
This coyness, lady, were no crime.
(excerpt from Andrew Marvell’s ‘To His Coy Mistress’)
And, okay, this sets up interesting resonance in my head, like: Twelve asking Missy over and over again: have you changed? Could you change? Do you want to? Are you with me? I’ve been trying so long - will I ever reach you? One day we are both going to die - don’t you want it to be for something? Do you really just want to burn out? Won’t you please be with me?
And her responses: don’t spoil the moment. No. Just… no. But in her eyes… another story. And, as we learn, in her heart as well.
What a fascinating resonance! What a well-chosen title!
for the first time in nearly 54 years, the doctor is female!
the thirteenth doctor will be played by jodie whittaker!
