Sweet little fic, based around song, about stolen moments between Garak and Julian, one on Cardassia, one on DS9. They get together as they can, one another’s only real company.

Excerpt

“Captain Sisko was a realist, my dear.”

“And I’m not?”

“Not in the slightest. One of the things I enjoy most about you: your relentless conviction that things will get better.”

“And you’re an unrelenting pessimist, absolutely convinced that the universe is full of miserable people just aching for a chance to betray each other.”

“You think I’m wrong?”

“I prefer to think you are.”

“Why?”

“Because what’s the point of living in a universe where there’s no hope?”

“You think that being realistic precludes the existence of hope?”

“Well, doesn’t it?”

“Not at all. For example: I hope your romantic view of the universe is the correct one.”

“You do?”

“Absolutely. I may not be able to believe in a universe of kind, good-hearted people, but I’m heartened that you do.”

“I… well, I’m glad.”

“Do be careful, though.”

“How do you mean?”

“Incurable romantics tend to die young. Or such has been my experience. And I’d hate to lose you.”

From “Empok Nor” (5x11)

Garak has called over O’Brien and others to inform them that two Cardassians have apparently  come out of stasis and are now loose on the station. Garak, already exposed to some psychotropic toothpaste, is already starting to act… hmm.

O’Brien: A runabout doesn’t disengage from its docking clamps and blow up all on its own.

Garak: Which leads me to believe that the former occupants of these chambers are up and about.

Pechetti: If you’re telling me that there are two Cardassian soldiers from the Third Battalion loose on this station, we’re in trouble. Death to All. That was their motto.

Garak: Three simple words, and they certainly sum up their credo nicely.

BTW, thank EVERYTHING, I just found a transcript of this episode online – actually it seems I can get most all of them. I had been typing them up myself. Which I can do from years of doing that, but hey. Wow.
